DIRECTOR, COMMONWEALTH POLL

      Dr. Cary Funk is director of the Commonwealth Poll and Associate Professor in the Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. She has extensive experience designing survey research studies and analyzing public opinion data. She began her career at CBS News in New York where she worked on pre-election surveys and exit polls; she has also served as an election night analyst for NBC News and BBC radio.  From 2004 to 2007, she was Senior Researcher at the Pew Research Center in Washington, DC where she helped to design, analyze, and report on public opinion surveys covering a range of topics including family and marriage relationships, gambling, personal finances, politics and global opinion.

      In addition to the Commonwealth Poll, Dr. Funk is survey director for the
VCU Life Sciences Survey -- a national survey focused on public attitudes about science and biotechnology.

     Dr. Funk also directs the
Commonwealth Education Poll  and has conducted numerous other survey research studies for state agencies and nonprofit organizations.
