Research interests:

Research interests include understanding the complex interactions of vectors and hosts of mosquiot-transmitted diseases such as West Nile virus and malaria. Specific research projects include:

  • Understanding the disease ecology of Plasmodium flaciparum malaria in Haiti to prepare for the eventual eradication of this parasite from the island of Hispaniola

  • An investigation of mosquito biting rates and subsequent costs of pathogen infection on nesting birds

  • The design of "smart" mosquito traps for more sensitive detection of mosquito vectors

  • The development of GIS technologies as decision support software (DSS) to better characterize risk of mosquito-transmitted pathogens across landscapes and to guide low environmental impact risk reduction strategies
