Dr. John B. Fenn Presents Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Seminar
On September 27, 2004, Dr. John B. Fenn, 2002 recipient of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry,
presented a seminar entitled: Why Elephants Fly: Electrospray Wings for Molecular
Elephants in the VCU Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology seminar series. Dr. Fenn is a research
professor in the Department of Chemistry at VCU.

He won the Nobel Prize for his work on
mass spectrometry, specifically electrospray ionization (ESI). This technique has been
fundamental to the development of the field of proteomics, the systematic study of the
changes in protein modification that occur in response to extracellular stimuli. Follow this link for more
information about Dr. Fenn.
