Act Titles
'Why not write for young performers without thinking of it as children's theatre? When Bach wrote his exercises for his daughter -- all the delicacy and clarity of his talent was present; plus a sweet passion to pass along what he perceived to be magic.'
-- Liz Swados
Act Titles, especially if they're Metaphoric Titles, are a great way to focus your energies and intentions as a writer in each main movement of the script. Some fine examples . . .
- WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF
- Edward Albee's three acts are entitled:
- Fun and Games
- Walpurgesnacht
- Exorcism
- THREE HOTELS
- Jon Robin Baitz's three acts -- each composed of a single long monologue to the audience -- are entitled:
- The Halt & The Lame
- Be Careful
- The Day of the Dead
- ANGELS IN AMERICA, Part I: MILLENNIUM APPROACHES
- Tony Kushner's three acts are entitled:
- Bad News
- In Vitro
- Not-Yet-Conscious, Forward Dawning
