Assistant/Associate Professor of Voice and Speech

The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Theatre is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Voice and Speech.

 

Responsibilities:  This position is a tenure-eligible faculty position in the area of voice and speech, to support undergraduate and graduate level courses including but not limited to basic vocal production, IPA, dialects and accents, and graduate level topics including voice and speech pedagogy.  Additional duties include academic advising, service to the school and department, working collaboratively with theatre faculty, students and guest artists, and continuing professional work/scholarship in the field of voice and speech. An emphasis will be placed on candidates who are able to help students transition from academia to the professional world.

 

Qualifications: Applicants must have a terminal degree or equivalent professional experience and at least three years of professional teaching experience at the University/College level.  Experience coaching singers for musical theatre and expertise/certification in one or more voice and speech pedagogies, including but not limited to Rodenburg, Berry, Linklater, Lessac, Fitzmaurice, and Alexander is preferred. Theatre VCU faculty will have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
