Description of general responsibilities The Technical Director is to supervise the scene shop in the BFA / MFA program and to supervise the construction of scenery for four annual mainstage productions with graduate and undergraduate assistance. The Technical Director will work with the design faculty to schedule and executing student and faculty stage designs in a timely and efficient manner and within the budget and personnel parameters. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating and maintaining a safe work environment, supervision of student work crews, creating working drawings, carpentry, cost estimation, tool maintenance, ordering of materials, welding, theatrical rigging, and the mentoring of undergraduate technical majors. The Technical Director will supervise and work with the Scene Shop Foreman/Facilities Manager to maintain the theatre facilities, property and equipment and to facilitate departmental and external events. The Technical director supervises the teaching of stagecraft and practicum classes and may teach additional advanced classes. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate organizational and supervisory skills as well as excellence in the areas listed above.

Qualifications This position requires an independent, pro-active collaborator with excellent leadership skills and a strong background in the Theatre. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing is required. Demonstrated ability to consistently produce and enforce procedures and instructional materials and create technical drawings. Ability to successfully develop and maintain working relationships with administrators, faculty members, students and community members is required. Prior experience as a Technical Director in the Theatre arts is required. An MFA and experience in working in University-level academics is preferred.
