Animation

This class will cover the basics of traditional and digital 2D animation though the study of art in motion. Students are encouraged to be free thinkers while they develop their thoughts from rough ideas to a fully fleshed out animation. Screenings and discussions of various animations will enhance student understanding of the techniques discussed during class.

Through the use of paper and pencil, students will learn what it takes to go from an idea to concept art, to storyboards, to animatix, a preproduction animation, and finally a polished animation. Most of the class will consist of actual studio time, where students are encouraged to work on their project until the very end.

Digital 2D animation will encompass the use of Photoshop, After Effects, Flash, and basic video editing software. Having a basic knowledge of computers is recommended, but experience with the software is not a requirement. Students will burn their animation projects to a disk for presentation during Summer Intensive's culminating event, “Show Your Stuff."
