Request for Proposals
Description: Funding of $25,000 for Undergraduate Student Research Grants began three years ago with the purpose of encouraging curiosity, creativity, risk-taking and scholarly investigation into a project or subject of interest relevant to the student’s major. Research that is 1) interdisciplinary 2) involves student collaboration and 3) draws on the expertise of a faculty mentor is preferred.
Eligibility: VCUarts full-time undergraduate students graduating after December 2009. VCUarts students may submit a proposal to collaborate on a project with a student from any major attending VCU full-time as long as there is a clear connection between the project and the students' curricular interest.
Apply By: Friday, November 6, 2009
Award Amounts: Ranging from $500 to $3,000

Notification: Friday, December 4, 2009. Award funds will be deposited into the department operating account of the primary student in January 2010.
Requirements: The proposal must include:
- the value of the research/creative activity in the discipline
- the connection between the project and the curriculum
- expected results
- how the research/creative activity will be used
- budget request, for ex. materials, travel (please do not request funds for salary or equipment purchases)
- timeline (demonstrate completion date by December 2010)
Students are encouraged to discuss and seek support of a School of the Arts faculty mentor that is full-time with rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor.
If awarded, the faculty will be eligible for a $500 operating supplement which will be deposited directly into the faculty's department operating account.
