Overview: Info for Parents
When you send your child off to college you want to feel confident they're in good hands. VCU takes the safety and well-being of its students seriously and offers a number of programs to keep students well-informed and safe.
The VCU Police Department ensures that our two campuses are safe for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Police officers patrol on mountain bikes, in cars and on foot. Emergency telephones are located around both campuses offering immediate connection to the police dispatcher.
The VCU student newspaper, The Commonwealth Times, ran a story in fall 2009 detailing that VCU had a lower crime rate per capita in 2008 than all other universities in the state. The Richmond Times-Dispatch's Data Center reported that the total number of crimes in Richmond went down 11 percent from 2007 to 2008.
As a parent, you also want to feel confident that your son or daughter will find a fulfilling job after graduation. VCUarts graduates take off in a variety of directions with many become successful artists, designers, performers. We have featured just a few of our alumni on our YouTube alumni documentary page. We hope you'll take a few minutes to watch these short videos of these successful artists.
