• Joe Seipel has received an Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education. This is the highest honor bestowed on the university's graduates and recognizes Dean Seipel's extraordinary contribution as a visual artist, educator, curator, writer and administrator in higher education, guiding the VCUarts Department of Sculpture + Extended Media to a program of international prominence (that department is the number one rated graduate Sculpture program in the US). Joe Seipel is Senior Associate Dean, Academic Affairs at VCUarts.
• Dr. Pamela G. Taylor, Chair of the VCU Department of Art Education, was selected by the National Art Education Association to receive the Southeastern Region Higher Education Art Educator of the Year. The award recognizes the exemplary contributions, service, and achievements of one outstanding NAEA member annually at the regional level.
• Claire Zitzow, a senior in the Department of Sculpture + Extended Media, been chosen as this year's winner of the Lauren A. Woods Scholarship and will also be VCU's nominee to the national Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship competition. Claire’s application was chosen unanimously from among the many applications received from both the Monroe Park and
MCV campuses.
• Tyler Darden, art director at Virginia Living Magazine, and a 1995 VCUarts graduate will be one of five judges for this year's Communications Arts Illustration Annual.
• The Oregon Alliance for Arts Education has appointed Don Hudgins (’81 BFA), as Executive Director. Hudgins comes to the Alliance from Seattle, Washington, where he has spent the last ten years deeply involved in that city’s arts community. He founded Sedrat Arts, an organization dedicated to finding creative solutions to arts funding issues and assisting artists and arts organizations in organizational development and project completion.
