Cellopaloosa
featuring Guest Artist Bonnie Hampton

February 21, 2009

"I certainly enjoyed the Cellopaloosa. I learned a lot listening to Bonnie, and the sound of 82 of us was certainly wonderful."

On Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, VCU Music hosted a cello workshop led by acclaimed cellist and teacher Bonnie Hampton. Hampton, on the faculty of the Juilliard School, is one of the foremost cellists and performers of our time. She has worked with the most prominent musicians of the century, including Pablo Casals and the Juilliard Quartet. As part of the workshop, she taught advanced students individually, led a segment on cello pedagogy and cello technique, and played and discussed music that was written for her by living composers. Participants also performed together as a large massed cello choir.

"[My son] totally enjoyed yesterday! He is looking forward to next year!"

"Thanks again for a very inspiring day!"

"Thanks for a great Saturday!!! Kudos to you! It was terrific!!"

"What a great event! Educational, inspirational, enjoyable, with great networking as well."
