Orchestra Intensive

Orchestra Intensive is designed for ambitious middle and high school students who are looking for intense music study. The Orchestra Intensive camp is an advanced full symphony camp. Admission by audition only.

Orchestra Intensive musician’s typical day includes:

• Full Symphony rehearsal
• Small ensembles (i.e. quartets and quintets)
• Sectionals
• Masterclasses/Technique workshops
• Theory
• Private Lessons (optional)

Audition Dates:
• January 14, 2012
• March 17, 2012

Audition Requirements:
• Two contrasting pieces or movements (contrasting tempo or style)*
• Two scales of choice
• Sight reading

Notification of acceptance:
• April 2, 2012

An additional audition date may be scheduled for vacancies only in early May. Please check website for more information after April 2. String musicians not accepted into Orchestra Intensive will be placed into String Odyssey.

String Odyssey
June 24 – June 29 • 9am-3pm
Strings • Grades 3-12
$290

Odyssey is designed for string students with 2 or more years of experience on their instrument.
Odyssey is open to all string players currently in grades 3-12 (for the 2010-11 school year) with a
teacher recommendation. A limited number of positions are available and will be filled on a first-come,
first-served basis.

String Odyssey Musician’s typical day includes:
• String Orchestra rehearsal
• Sectionals
• Handbells/Choir
• Private Lessons (optional)
• Recreation (optional)

String Odyssey Placement Auditions:
Students will play a brief placement audition on Sunday, June 24th, after the camp orientation. Placement audition excerpts will be available May 2012.

Private Lessons • $50/ hour

Optional 60-minute private lessons will be available by Orchestra Project faculty for an additional $50 fee per lesson. Lessons will be filled on a first-come- first served basis. The lesson schedule will be sent to students the week before camp.

Resident Camper • $370/week

Middle and high school students who wish to reside at VCU during the Orchestra Project will be housed in VCU dormitories. Students will be supervised by resident counselors. Members of the opposite gender will be housed on separate floors. The resident camper fee includes 6 days, 5 nights, all meals, a bedding package, and VCU recreation pass.

After-camp Recreation • $35/week

Supervised recreational activities are offered at VCU's Cary Street Gym from 3:30-5:00 p.m.

Discounts/ Refund Policy/ Payment Schedule

Early Bird Discount Deadline An early bird discount of $20 can be taken from the tuition if application is postmarked by the following.
• Orchestra Intensive: March 2, 2012
• String Odyssey: April 6, 2012

Financial Assistance

A limited amount of financial assistance is available, based on need and a first-come, first-served basis. The financial assistance application deadline is Friday, April 27, 2012.

Refunds

No refunds will be granted after June 1, 2012.

Payment Schedule

• String Odyssey - $150 deposit (includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee) due with the application.
• Orchestra Intensive - $25 non-refundable registration fee due with application. $150 deposit due upon acceptance.
• All final balances due June 1, 2012 for both camps.
