Percussion studio
Thank you for visiting the VCU percussion studio on the Web. Our studio is a thriving community that includes five percussion artists/teachers and more than 35 students.
We offer many degree options for students interested in pursuing music as a major, as well as performance and educational opportunities for music minors and non-music majors. Instruction is available in the areas of symphonic percussion, solo percussion, rudimental drumming, world percussion and drum set. In addition to weekly private lessons and a percussion master class, percussion students have the opportunity to perform in the VCU Percussion Ensemble, VCU Symphony, Wind Ensemble, University Band, small jazz ensembles and jazz orchestras. The Richmond area also offers numerous professional playing and teaching opportunities for percussionists.
In order to provide students with the needed resources for effective practice and a high-quality educational experience, the VCU percussion studio houses a library of percussion music, recordings and instructional videos, as well as a large inventory of percussion instruments. As a service to the university and the community, the percussion studio often hosts clinics, master classes and performances by renowned guest artists that are free and open to the public.
Please take the time to browse the VCU Music Web site and be sure to revisit often to access the most current information on our educational events and performances. Please feel free to e-mail or call with any questions.
