Saxophone
A typical audition consists of scales, two pieces of contrasting character and sight-reading. Occasionally, a member of your audition committee may ask a student to do something in a slightly different way in order to evaluate the flexibility or “teachability” of the student.
Audition materials for the woodwind instruments typically include etudes or solo literature, such as sonatas, concertos and solos. Examples may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Etudes by Ferling, Voxman (Selected Studies) and Karg-Elert
- Concerto movements by Ibert and Glazunov
- Sonata movements or solo pieces by Heiden, Creston, Muczinsky and Bozza
