Laura Candler White serves as adjunct faculty instructor in keyboard skills and piano at VCU. As a double major in church music and music education, she taught in the public schools for 12 years before coming to VCU. Her choral groups toured annually, including performances in Washington's National Cathedral, Catholic University’s Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC, New England Conservatory, Martin Luther King Center in Atlanta, and in the greater Chicago area. She also traveled with the late Robert Shaw and his chorale, giving performances in England and seven European countries. Her choral experience with Shaw included performances and recordings in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Westminster Choir College and Notre Dame, Paris. She and members of her high school choir were chosen to represent the U.S. in the "American Music Abroad" touring organization.
As a chorister and accompanist, she has been affiliated with the Richmond Symphony Chorus, Richmond Renaissance Singers, CAFUR, Richmond Choral Society, James River Singers, One Voice Chorus, Petersburg Festival Chorus, Greater Richmond Children's Choir, Schola Cantorum (University of Richmond), and the Central Va. Masterworks Chorale. She is the accompanist annually for the Chesapeake Bay Choral Workshop (Rodney Eichenberger), Sacred Music Conference (Va. Wesleyan College), and the Governor's School (department of dance).
She presently serves as the assistant organist at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, and organist/choir director at Three Chopt Presbyterian Church. As a freelance accompanist, she regularly plays for dance studios, music theatre productions, district choral concerts and festivals, and private instrumental studios in the greater Richmond area.
