Allyson Keyser was raised in Virginia Beach, Va. where she learned to play trumpet
from her grandfather at age 10.  At 17, she moved to Richmond where she attended
Virginia Commonwealth University for a bachelor’s degree in music education. During her studies at VCU, Allyson studied trumpet with Rex Richardson, a member of Rhythm and Brass as well as one of the most traveled crossover trumpet soloists in the world today. 

After graduating magna cum laude from VCU, Allyson attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for her Master of Music degree in trumpet performance under the tutelage of Dr. Edward Bach, which she completed in May 2008. Allyson completed coursework for her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in performance with a minor in conducting in December 2011. She has held an studio with an average of ten undergraduate trumpet students since the beginning of her master’s degree at UNCG as well as several public school students outside of UNCG. Allyson taught trumpet to students of all ages and levels for two years at Moore Music, the leading music store in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina, and was the trumpet instructor for the UNCG summer music camp for the past four years.

During her studies, Allyson performed regularly with a graduate student brass quintet, UNCG Wind Ensemble, UNCG Symphony Orchestra, UNCG Jazz Ensemble, UNCG Trumpet Ensemble, as a soloist, and has performed with artists in the past such as the Richmond Brass Consort, Richmond Symphonic Winds, Richmond Philharmonic, Richmond Symphony Brass Quintet, Rhythm and Brass, Ryan Kisor, Eugene Rousseau, Delfayo Marsalis, Joel Frahm, Market Street Brass, Seamus Blake, and many more. 

In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her adorable border collie Lacy, reading, cooking and traveling.
