Kathleen Hughes received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from VCU in 1995. She has taught music at both primary and secondary levels, in public school settings in Richmond City and Henrico County, as well as in private at St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock, Va.
Hughes has been organist and choir director in several churches and presently directs the music program at Tappahannock Presbyterian Church. Her other experiences include directing and/or accompanying for the Richmond Department of Recreation and Parks, the Richmond Symphony Chorus, dinner theaters and district choruses throughout the Richmond and surrounding areas. She has accompanied many well-known directors, including Robert Shaw, Robert Page, L. Wayne Batty and Jim Erb.
Hughes lives in the Tappahannock area with her husband Emerson and enjoys gardening, water activities on the Rappahannock River, wildlife and pets, travel and family times. She returned to VCU in 1998 to pursue one of her favorite activities — working with students through accompanying.
