Keith Hanlon, flutist, earned his B.A. in Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and he received his M.M. from VCU in flute performance. He served as a military musician in the U.S. Army and was former principal piccolo and associate principal flute with the 33rd Army Band in Heidelberg, Germany.
Hanlon is a founding member and the flutist for the Virginia Wind Quintet. He plays piccolo for the Commonwealth Winds, under the direction of Terry Austin, and is a frequent guest soloist in the Richmond area. Hanlon is a member of the Keystone Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Jack Stamp, and can be heard with the ensemble on the Klavier and Citadel labels.
His teachers include, Jennifer Lawson, Patricia Bickle-Brennan, Carl Adams, Barbara Hois, Lynette Hess-Smith, Francile Bilyeu and Joey Payton. He has performed in master classes under Michael Parloff, Charles Brinks, Marianne Gedigian, Roger Martin, Carl Adams, Rhian Kinney, Jennifer Conner and Donna Wissinger.
Some notable public performances include Carnegie Hall, New York, Teatro Olypico in Vicenza, Italy, the Berliner Philharmonie in Berlin–Tiergarten and the Rokokotheater in Schwetzingen, Germany.
Hanlon is currently adjunct faculty at VCU and John Tyler Community College.
