Fred Dole  currently holds Section Double Bass positions in the Richmond Symphony,
Virginia Symphony, and West Virginia Symphony Orchestras. In addition to his work
at VCU, he serves as professor of double bass at the College of William and Mary and Christopher Newport University.  Previously, he was a freelance musician throughout the Baltimore/Washington DC area, and has played in numerous orchestras and chamber groups in the area.

In 2003, Fred was chosen as a Peabody String Fellow, which allowed him to travel to Singapore to help open the Young Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and to perform with the Singapore Symphony. Mr. Dole received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, where he studied with Michael Cameron. He received his Master of Music from the Peabody Conservatory , where he studied with Paul Johnson and had additional studies with Rob Kesselman and John Hood.
