Auditions
Auditions for all VCU string ensembles are open to qualified students and take place during the first week of class each semester. All auditioning students should fill out an audition form [PDF] and sign up for a time on either the strings or winds/brass/percussion bulletin board in the Singleton Center, near room 132. Winds, brass and percussion students wishing to audition for both the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the VCU Symphony may do so with one audition.

Strings excerpts
Each audition will be five minutes in length. Students are requested to prepare the following:
- Two movements from the standard repertoire featuring your instrument
- Excerpts for your instrument
- Violin [PDF]
- Viola [PDF]
- Cello [PDF]
- Bass [PDF]
- Others available from the Symphonic Wind Ensemble Web page
- Two scales of three octaves or more
Students may also be asked to sight read from the orchestral repertoire.
