Auditions
Auditions are held for Commonwealth Singers at the beginning of both the fall and spring semesters, during the first three class periods in which the class is scheduled to meet. Students who wish to audition must attend all three audition sessions.
During the first audition session, a piece is distributed and sung through as a group. Then each person sings his or her part for the director and the rest of the auditionees. At the end of that audition session, another excerpt is distributed for each student to learn and master on their own. By the end of the audition process, each student has been heard several times in a variety of combinations, as well as alone, on both new and prepared music. A short solo passage, such as a hymn or Christmas carol, may also be requested.
