The Department of Theatre at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia is accepting applications for a nine month Assistant/Associate Professor tenure-track position in teaching the fundamentals of acting beginning the middle of August 2010.

Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in Acting I and/or II as well as serving as an acting coach on main stage productions. The candidate may also be asked to direct in the departmental season and/or supervise various undergraduate directing projects.  Service on department and university committees and academic advising and mentoring of students is required.

Candidates must have the following qualifications:  MFA in Theatre; at least three years of professional LORT level acting experience; professional membership in Actors’ Equity with preferred membership in the Screen Actors Guild; and at least three years of demonstrated full time teaching experience in teaching acting based on the fundamentals of the Stanislavski System at the university level.  The candidate must also demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence, to collegiality, and to the experience or potential for working in a culturally diverse community.  Professional creative work/research/publication expected for tenure. Release time for professional work will be encouraged after the candidate is established within the department.  Faculty rank and salary is dependent on qualifications.
