Virginia Commonwealth University is an urban campus serving 22,000 students in eleven schools and one college. Twelve nationally recognized programs in the visual and performing arts and design serve the 2,500+ students in the School of the Arts. The relative proximity of VCU to museums and galleries along the the East Coast, from Washington D.C. (just under two hours away), allows easy access to Smithsonian museums such as the Hirshhorn, The National Gallery of Art and the Renwick Galleries of Contemporary American Craft. The historic city of Richmond is home to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts which houses one of the world’s premier art nouveau and art deco collections, and the Sidney and Frances Lewis Collection, one of the largest unique private contemporary studio furniture collections in the United States.
