Facilities
The Fine Arts Building is a new, 115,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility that the Department of Craft shares with the Department of Painting & Printmaking and the Department of Sculpture.
The 1st floor of this facility has a large lobby area for receptions and installation of student art work, a special projects gallery, the Fine Arts Computer Lab, conference rooms, and general use wood and machine shops. The 2nd floor, which is occupied by the Department of Craft, has departmental offices, a critique room and well-equipped studios, shops, materials storage rooms, and graduate studios specifically designed for each media discipline: 5,000 squre feet devoted to Fibers; 7,000 square feet devoted to Wood; 7,000 square feet devoted to Metals; 5,500 square feet devoted to Glass; and 8,000 square feet devoted to Ceramics.
Because of its physical layout, the facility encourages the interaction between craft media/disciplines and between the other Fine Arts disciplines of painting, printmaking and sculpture. Students have around-the-clock access to the facility.
