Music Alumnus Provides Music for Documentary

Music alumnus David G. Russell (B.M. 1990) provided music for Farrah’s Story on NBC. The documentary, produced by NBC News, was also aired on cable channels MSNBC, Bravo, and Oxygen. Farrah’s Story chronicles actress Farrah Fawcett’s fight against cancer over a two and a half year period. The documentary aired last spring and once again after her passing this summer. Russell is a film and television composer and has provided music for numerous feature films, television, documentaries and games.

Outstanding Woman in the Arts

Craft/Material Studies Chair Sonya Clark, is one of eight women from across the state of Virginia recognized as an Outstanding Woman in the Arts by the Virginia Commission on the Arts this year. An article on Clark’s work written by Lowery Stokes Sims, curator at the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC, appeared in the September/October issue of Fiberarts Magazine. Reviews of Sonya’s group exhibition, Dress Codes: Clothing as Metaphor, at the Katonah Museum of Art are featured in the New York Times.

Toes Will Tap at Theatre’s Fall Production of
Ain’t Misbehavin

In Richmond this fall? Make your way to campus to see TheatreVCU’s production of Ain’t Misbehavin, an infectiously energetic musical revue featuring music by Fats Waller. Ain’t Misbehavin pays joyful tribute to the influential artists of the Harlem Renaissance and the music they made famous. Playing November 5-7, 12-14, and 19-21 at 7:30 p.m. and November 8, 15, and 22 at 3:00 p.m. at the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts. We Know They Can Dance

VCUarts Dance and Choreography alumna Criscia Richardson (BFA, 2006) and current freshman Kimara Woods both appeared on Fox’s smash hit show So You Think You Can Dance this fall. Both Criscia and Kimara made it to the season finals in Las Vegas.
