Areas of Study: Theatre

Department of Theatre, BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) or BA (Bachelor of Arts)

Earn a BA in Theatre or a BFA in performance; costume, scenic and lighting design/tech; or stage management. Every year we welcome 6 to 8 theatre experts with international reputations who teach master classes for a full week, while each of two guest directors develop one of the theatre department’s four main stage productions while in residence.

During the much-anticipated Senior Acting Showcase, students’ material is presented to theatrical, film and television agents, as well as casting and artistic directors in New York City, Chicago, and Washington, DC.

Graduates of Theatre VCU work as actors, artistic directors, fight choreographers, producers, makeup artists, musical directors, scene designers, stage managers, technical directors, drama coaches, professors, pyrotechnicians, costume designers, dramaturges, vocal coaches, producers, voice-over artists, and cruise ship entertainers. Many of our graduates have also found careers on Broadway, Las Vegas, Los Angeles as well as at universities and regional theatres.

Submit recommendation forms and completed VCU application. Design Tech applicants must also submit a portfolio. Once the entire application is received, the department will send you an Audition Reservation form. Auditions and interviews with faculty are required of all applicants.
