The VCU Microscopy Facility has been created through significant resources provided by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) as well as substantial support from the School of Medicine and University. The Microscopy Facility is housed within the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology and is operationally under the control of the department, directed by a senior faculty member, who is an acknowledged expert in multiple aspects of modern imaging. The VCU Microscopy Facility provides researchers with the equipment and expertise required to examine subcellular details at high resolution by both light and electron microscopy and to perform quantitative image analysis. Staff are available for consultation, instruction, assistance, and collaboration. Services include sample preparation, immuno-localization (immunofluorescence microscopy, immuno-gold EM), confocal laser scanning microscopy, multi-photon laser scanning microscopy, fluorescence in situ hybridization, electron microscopy, histological techniques, and image analysis.

Investigators who have been trained by the director of the Facility and have submitted a Use Authorization form may reserve time by choosing the "Sign Up Now" button on any of the website’s pages. Instructions on the use of the on-line reservation system may be found by choosing the "Instructions" button.

For those who wish to use the facility but have not been instructed in the use of the equipment, training sessions may be arranged by contacting the facility director, Dr. Scott Henderson, at extension 80949.

Acknowledgments

For funding purposes, it is essential to acknowledge the Microscopy Facility in all publications that include data derived from the Facility. This should include the statement:

"Microscopy was performed at the VCU - Dept. of Neurobiology & Anatomy Microscopy Facility, supported, in part, with funding from NIH-NINDS Center core grant (5P30NS047463)."

Thank you.
