About NEI

Nonprofit organizations provide opportunities for people to make a difference. From barn raisings on the American frontier to our present day nonprofit hospitals, human services organizations, schools, museums and advocacy groups, Americans have worked together to address community needs. It is the nonprofits hat step in to help when government and the for-profit business sectors are unwilling or unable. Nonprofit organizations bring stability, comfort and opportunities for growth as they engage in the work that "changes people's lives."

In 2002 with the help of grant support from the Jesse Ball duPont Fund, we were formed:

  1. to provide training and education programs to help nonprofits be more effective operationally,
  2. to help the public and nonprofit organizations understand their value to society and their strength as a sector and
  3. to create a more supportive policy environment in which nonprofit organizations can operate.

Since it is the only organization of its kind in Virginia and because of its central location in Virginia’s Capital, the Nonprofit Enterprise Institute will serve as a focal point, resource and support center for all Virginia nonprofits. Our main goal is to ensure a strong nonprofit sector.
