REGISTRATION: The participants are required to register between 18:00 - 21:00 on October 24 and between 8:00 - 18:00 on October 25 at the symposium office. The registration fee is $450.00 ($250.00 for students) and includes the abstract booklet, proceedings, banquet, and receptions. Those who have preregistered can pick up the symposium package at the registration desk.
LODGING: Participants will be housed in the Omni Richmond. Lodging at other hotels may be arranged if requested, but the symposium will not provide transportation between these hotels and the symposium site. This must be arranged by the participant. Participants who have not sent in their hotel registration forms are urged to do so before September 15. After this date, accommodation is subject to availability at the prevailing rate.
TRANSPORTATION: Richmond is served by Amtrak as well as Greyhound bus service. American, United, Delta, USAir, Northwest, Continental, and TWA have regular services to Richmond airport. Symposium personnel will be available at the Richmond Airport on October 24 from 12:00 - 21:00 to provide assistance.
POSTERS: All contributed papers will be presented in one of the two poster sessions unless otherwise notified. The sessions are between 20:00 - 22:00 on October 25 and October 27. Assignments of poster sessions will be provided in the abstract booklet. Posters for the first session should be put up by 14:00 on October 25 and should be removed by 9:00 on October 26. The posters for the second session should be in place by 14:00 on October 27 and should be removed by noon on October 28. Refreshments will be served during the poster sessions. Each poster should have a lettered heading no more than 36" (90 cm) in length. A tripod easel and a 32" (82 cm) x 40" (102 cm) poster board will be provided. The poster layout should be vertical to make the best use of the space available. An award will be presented for the best poster display.
MANUSCRIPTS FOR THE PROCEEDINGS: All invited and contributed papers will be published by World Scientific Publishing after suitable refereeing. The papers must be prepared in camera-ready form. You can also download the instructions and template for the preparation of the manuscript from www.wspc.com. The finished size of the book will be 8.50"x6.00". The length of the manuscript for contributed papers is 6 pages and for invited papers, 8 pages including text, embedded tables and figures, and references. If the manuscripts cannot be sent to us before the symposium, they must be submitted during the symposium at the registration desk on or before October 28. The submissions should include two hard copies and a diskette. If you wish to submit the paper through e-mail, please use the address brao@saturn.vcu.edu and send the manuscript as an attached file. SOCIAL EVENTS: A reception will be held on second floor of the Omni Hotel on October 24 at 19:00-21:00 in the foyer near the symposium office (York River room). A banquet is scheduled for 19:00 on Tuesday, October 26th at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The cost of these events for the participants' companions is $75.00 per person. An optional excursion to historic Williamsburg is scheduled for Sunday, October 24. Those coming to Richmond on Saturday, October 23rd may find this an enjoyable way to spend the day. The bus will leave the Richmond Omni at 9:00 and return around 17:00. The price for the trip is $45.00 per person. The excursion will include transportation, conducted tour, and brunch. Please indicate on the enclosed questionnaire if you wish to purchase tickets for either of these events. Please be advised that the excursion has to be prepaid. The excursion will be cancelled if the number is less than 25. In the event of cancellation, you will receive a refund.
CLIMATE: Richmond's climate is mild. However, in October the weather is changeable. The temperatures may range from 40-65o Fahrenheit.
RECREATION: Richmond is the capital of Virginia. There are a number of historical sites dating from the colonial and confederate periods and several museums (Science Museum, Museum of the Confederacy, Valentine Museum, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts which currently has a major Egyptian exhibit). Within an hour's drive are the nation's capital, several plantations, historical Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Charlottesville. The Atlantic Ocean and the Blue Ridge Mountains are within easy driving distance. Brochures will be available for those who wish to explore the area on their own.
